 The lush coastal rainforests of Vancouver Island’s rugged West Coast receive over three metres of rain every year. All that rain wasn’t going to keep an eclectic group of Ucluetians (Ucluelet, BC residents) down so we decided to pour some booze in the blender, party with a purpose, and start the Vancouver Island Parrotheads club - we like to call ourselves VIPs!
VIP is actually the second Parrot Head Club some of our members have been involved with. The first was Parrot Heads Living on the Coast (PHLOC) that had members in Greater Vancouver and on Vancouver Island. Tried as they might, everyone realized about a year into PHLOC that it was just too hard to coordinate meetings and events with members separated by such distance. Shirley Varns, Lorane Hutchinson, and the rest of the Vancouver Island crew decided to fledge their own Vancouver Island Parrotheads Club and keep close ties to our Vancouver PHLOC.
At writing (July 06), VIP boasts 16 members and has participated successfully in a number of fun local events in only a short six months. Visit other sections of our website to learn about our club and our community involvement. We are especially proud to support a very special bird named Ginny who lives at the World Parrot Refuge, a sanctuary for abandoned pet parrots, located in Coombs.
